Hi there,

Today is the first of two Public Media Giving Days, a time to celebrate what public and independent media gives to you by giving back. If you think Democracy Now!’s reporting is a critical line of defense against war, climate catastrophe and authoritarianism, please make your donation of $10 or more right now. In honor of Public Media Giving Days, a generous donor will TRIPLE your donation, which means it’ll go 3x as far to support our independent journalism. Democracy Now! is funded by you, and that’s why we’re counting on your donation to keep us going strong. Please give today. Every dollar makes a difference—in fact, gets tripled! Thank you so much.

Dn Recovers Tapes From Plowshares Demonstration

We have an important announcement to make: the audio tapes that were confiscated from Democracy Now! by the FBI and the Air Force have been returned, although the film they confiscated was exposed.

Last Sunday, Democracy Now! producer Jeremy Scahill and I went to Andrews Air Force base for the Department of Defense Open House.

We were interviewing a B-52 bomber pilot standing in front of his plane, when five anti-nuclear activists calling themselves The Gods of Metal Plowshares, hammered on the B-52 with household hammers and poured their own blood on the plane.

Soon after the military arrested the activists in front of a crowd of hundreds of spectators, the Air Force Police took Jeremy and I away into custody where we remained incommunicado for more than six hours. The FBI confiscated our tapes and the Air Force issued us ban-and-bar letters forbidding us to enter Andrews Air Force Base for two years. The letters accuse us of being involved in disorderly conduct and damage to government property.
