The Clinton administration is now changing its line on the Sudan bombings. Only four days ago the State department claimed it had bombed the Shifa pharmaceutical factory because of its ties to Saudi dissident Osama ben Laden, as well as what the State department claimed were its productions of the nerve agent VX.

The Sudanese government says the factory produced nearly half of the country’s medicine.

But today’s New York Times cites anonymous government sources insinuating that the Iraqi government was using the plant to make chemical weapons. But according to people familiar with the plant, it has no military function at all.
