Attorney Barry Scheck and NYC Councilman Bill Perkins also spoke at the news conference.

Scheck called for mandatory videotaping of all custodial interrogations. That means that the tape would start rolling from the moment a suspect is taken into custody, rather than from the moment a suspect is ready to confess.

Perkins is submitting legislation to the New York City council that would require mandatory videotaping of all custodial interrogations. Texas, Minnesota, and Alaska have all implemented such legislation.

    Tape:

    • Barry Scheck, attorney and co-founder of the Innocence Project at the Cardozo School of Law in New York.

    Guest:

    • Bill Perkins, New York City Council Member. He has been a leading advocate for the families of the Central Park Five
