Hi there,

Today is the first of two Public Media Giving Days, a time to celebrate what public and independent media gives to you by giving back. If you think Democracy Now!’s reporting is a critical line of defense against war, climate catastrophe and authoritarianism, please make your donation of $10 or more right now. In honor of Public Media Giving Days, a generous donor will TRIPLE your donation, which means it’ll go 3x as far to support our independent journalism. Democracy Now! is funded by you, and that’s why we’re counting on your donation to keep us going strong. Please give today. Every dollar makes a difference—in fact, gets tripled! Thank you so much.

In Israel a senior United Nations official is estimating up to 1,500 Palestinians have been left homeless following Israeli raids this weekend in Gaza. The raids were codenamed Operation Root Canal. Up to 120 homes were demolished and 8 Palestinians were killed. One UN official told the BBC, Gaza looked like it had been hit by a severe earthquake.

Yesterday, the Israeli military ordered 15 Palestinians detainees in the West Bank to be expelled to the Gaza Strip. None of the detainees have been charged with a crime or tried before a court.

The BBC reports the mass expulsion is unprecedented in scope. Human rights have condemned previous expulsions.

Palestinian Cabinet minister Saeb Erekat said of the move, “It’s a very dangerous step. This is not an act of self-defense. This is an act that deserves the condemnation.”
